Exam checks
Exam checks identify timing patterns, verification phrases, browser events, and camera moments for your review.
The checks
Exam checks are observations that help you examine an exam recording and the session in which it was made. They include answer timing, a spoken verification phrase, browser events, and camera observations. You review these alongside the student's answers.
A pause followed by unusually fluent speech
Answer timing
The timing check separates speech at gaps longer than 1.5 seconds. It requires four measurable answers, each with at least eight words and three seconds of speech. The Studio compares each answer with the middle values from the other answers.
The check counts um, uh, er, ah, hmm, mhm, huh, umm, and uhh as hesitation tokens. A rehearsed definition after a pause can produce the pattern. Pattern strength describes how far the measurements pass the thresholds.
Exam settings and review
Oral Exam and Question Draw start with Verification phrase and Session signals on. You can change those settings for each assignment. The Oral Exam recorder requests full screen, and the student says the displayed phrase on camera.
Camera checks depend on the assignment's settings and available analysis. You can also review moments when the student looked off-screen. You determine the grade through the assignment's rubric and your chosen method for posting.
The player shows each exam question at the moment it appeared during recording. Students read held feedback after you press Release feedback. A student can then use Ask for a second look to request another review.
