Speech measures
The Studio measures speech, language, and shared screens to identify moments for review.
The measures
Speech measures are the numbers the Studio reads from a recording's transcript and sound: pace, filler words, pauses, and other features of delivery. Analytics summarizes the recording. Observations identifies moments that you can play.

How a measure reaches a rubric line
A supported Voice or Video line converts its measurement into a score using fixed rules. The Studio displays the measurement and flags the score for your review. You score lines that require judgment or an unavailable measurement.
How pace and filler words are counted
The Studio calculates overall pace by dividing words by minutes of speech. It measures from the first word to the last and subtracts gaps longer than 1.5 seconds. The Analytics pace chart uses 15-second intervals. The chart divides interval words by elapsed minutes. Observations uses separate 20-second intervals for each speaker.
The Filler words card shows the count and a rate after at least 30 words. The rate divides the count by minutes of speech. The Studio uses the dominant presenter's words when that voice accounts for at least 80 percent of attributed speech. It counts all voices together when their shares are more balanced.
Questions
The Studio counts fillers in the transcript. Overall pace divides words by speech minutes after subtracting gaps longer than 1.5 seconds. The Studio counts like when surrounding punctuation or a pause identifies it as a filler.
